This guide will help you learn how to manage and overcome offenses in your life. The more you master this subject, the more successful in God you will be!

  1. Offenses are illogical and subtle. They are often blown way out of proportion.

  2. Offenses cause you to doubt what you used to be sure of. If you are not careful, offense can pull you away from the Lord's assignment for your life.

  3. Offenses are seldom two-ways. Most of the time, people want to be heard; however they are unwilling to hear the other person. Hinting and reading into things are weak forms of communication.

  4. Offenses often less to do with the offender and more to do with the offended. You cannot control other people's words, but you can control your response.

  5. Offenses come when expectations are unmet. When Naaman wanted the Prophet Elisha to personally meet with him and minister healing, the prophet declined meeting him, but rather sent instructions for him to receive his healing. Naaman was very offended and turned away in anger. Fortunately for him, his servants urged him to do as the prophet instructed. He did and he received his healing. Because of offense, Naaman nearly missed receiving his miracle from God. (II Kings 5:9-14)

  6. How we handle offenses is an indicator of our maturity.

  7. Offenses are a part of life. Offenses are always going to happen. You will be offended and you will offend others. (James 3:1-3; Matt. 18:7)
